Celebrating the 248th Year of American Independence in Mumbai: Strengthening Ties

It was an honor for IMFS to attend the 248th National Day celebrations of the United States in Mumbai on May 22, 2024. The event was a testament to the enduring relationship between India and the US, and it highlighted the growing partnership across various sectors. I had the privilege of interacting with the US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, and the Counsel General of the US in Mumbai, Mike Hankey. Here are some key takeaways from this memorable event:

The relationship between India and the US is at an all-time high. Our collaboration spans numerous areas, including semiconductors, quantum computing, defense and security, education, science and technology, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, environment, clean energy, and the space sector. This broad and deep partnership is a testament to the shared values and mutual interests of both nations.

The US has remains the number one destination for Indian students seeking higher education. In 2023, the US hosted the highest number of students from India, a trend that is expected to continue in 2024. With a reported 2.5% rise in its GDP, the US remains an attractive option for students due to its robust economy and vast opportunities.

Recognizing the growing demand from Indian students, Ambassador Eric Garcetti announced that the US will open two new Visa Processing Centers in Bangalore and Ahmedabad. This move will facilitate the visa application process for students, making it easier for them to pursue their dreams of studying in the US.

At the Institute of Management and Foreign Studies (IMFS), we see tremendous opportunities for students in emerging sectors such as robotics, cybersecurity, environment and green energy, sustainability, finance and economics, and healthcare. Students who complete an MS in these or the fields mentioned earlier are poised to excel and secure well-paying jobs, across the world.

The projections for 2024 indicate that India will send a significant number of students to the US for advanced degrees. This is already evident as visa slots for the Fall of 2024 are being booked almost immediately upon opening. This trend underscores the strong interest and confidence Indian students have in the US education system.

In conclusion, the 248th National Day celebrations were not just a commemoration of American independence but also a celebration of the strong and growing ties between India and the US. As we look forward to the future, we at IMFS are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for our students. The collaboration between our two great nations promises a brighter future for students and professionals alike.
