  • Pick your University Scale — Anna University uses ×9.5; VTU, Mumbai, and JNTU use ×10. Choose Generic (×10) if unsure.

  • US universities typically require a minimum 3.0 GPA (≈ 7.5 CGPA); UK requires a 2:1 (≈ 60%).

Indian Grade → German Grade Converter

German universities use a 1.0–5.0 scale where 1.0 is the best. Convert your Indian percentage or CGPA using the Modified Bavarian Formula — the method German universities officially use for international applicants.

📖 How to Use — German Grade Converter
  • Select Percentage (%) or CGPA (10-point) based on your marksheet format.
  • Enter your value and click Convert to German Grade → — CGPA is auto-converted to percentage before the formula runs.
  • The tool uses the Modified Bavarian Formula — the official method used by German universities and uni-assist for Indian applicants.
  • In Germany, 1.0 is the highest grade and 4.0 is the minimum passing grade — lower numbers are always better.
  • A result of 1.0–2.5 gives strong eligibility; 2.6–3.5 is moderate; above 4.0 is not eligible for standard admission.
  • German public universities charge only a semester fee of €150–€350 — no tuition fees for most programmes.

  • For Writing and Speaking, select the level that most honestly describes your current ability from the dropdown.

  • The overall band is rounded to the nearest 0.5 — the same rounding rule used by the official IELTS exam.
  • Most UK, Australian, and Canadian universities require a minimum of Band 6.5 overall with no section below 6.0.
  • Russell Group and Group of Eight universities typically require Band 7.0 or above.
