SAT, ACT, AP and English Tests
Which tests you need depends on your countries and universities. Most applicants need an English test; the SAT or ACT matters mainly for the USA.

Planning
When should I start planning a bachelor's degree abroad?
Ideally in Class 9 or 10, and no later than the start of Class 11. That leaves time to build your profile,
take the SAT or ACT and any AP exams, and prepare for an English test before applications open in Class 12. If you are already in Class 12, a focused fast-track plan is still possible, especially for the UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand.
Which countries does IMFS cover for bachelor's admissions?

compare them against your marks, interests and family budget before you build a shortlist.
Can I study a bachelor's in Germany directly after Class 12?
Usually not directly. For most Indian Class 12 graduates, German universities require a one-year foundation course (
Studienkolleg) or one to two years of a recognised bachelor's degree in India first; a strong JEE Advanced result can allow direct entry to some technical programmes. Indian applicants also need an APS certificate, and most bachelor's programmes are taught in German.

Do I need the SAT to study in the USA?
Not always, but it often helps. Some selective US universities have brought back SAT or ACT requirements, while many others remain test-optional, and a strong score can support your application and scholarship chances.
The digital SAT is scored from 400 to 1600. Requirements change each year, so check every university on your list.
Which English test do I need for a bachelor's abroad?
Usually
IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or the Duolingo English Test, depending on the university and country. Some universities waive the test if your Class 12 English marks meet their requirement, but this is decided by each university. Check the accepted tests and minimum scores for every university and for your visa.
Does IMFS write my college essays?
No. Essays are written by you with our structured feedback. IMFS helps you choose your stories, plan your Common App, UCAS or university-specific essays, and improve structure and clarity, but the ideas and words must be your own, as universities expect.
What does profile building involve?
Showing universities who you are beyond your marks: sustained activities, projects, research, competitions, internships,
volunteering and leadership. Depth and genuine interest matter more than a long list. IMFS helps you plan activities from Class 9 or 10 and present them clearly in your application.
Costs, scholarships and visas
Are scholarships available for Indian undergraduate students abroad?
Yes, but they are competitive and mostly partial. Many universities offer
merit scholarships to international students, while full need-based aid for international undergraduates is offered by relatively few US universities. IMFS students have received scholarship offers of up to $88,000, but no scholarship is guaranteed; strong marks, test scores and early applications help.
How much does a bachelor's degree abroad cost?
It varies widely by country and university. Public universities in Germany charge little or no tuition in most states, while private and many US universities cost far more over four years. Living costs, degree length (three years in the UK and Australia, four in the USA and Canada) and scholarships change the total, so estimate your budget country by country with our

Can I work abroad after my bachelor's degree?
Usually yes, through post-study work routes. Examples include OPT in the USA (12 months, plus up to 24 more for STEM degrees), the UK Graduate Route (2 years, falling to 18 months for applications from 1 January 2027) and Canada's Post-Graduation Work Permit (up to 3 years). The rules differ by country and change often.
